Derby Day Tipping Competition 2026 | Win 2 tickets to Champions Stakes Day Marquee & Melbourne Cup Runner for a Day

Derby Day Tipping Competition 2026: Win 2 tickets to a Champions Stakes Day Marquee + a Share of Vauban’s Melbourne Cup Prizemoney!

Put your racing knowledge to the test this Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival with the Winning Edge Investments Derby Day Tipping Competition, taking place on Saturday 31 October 2026.

Eligible members can compete for a grand prize featuring a Champions Stakes Day marquee experience for two valued at $2,860 + a share of Vauban’s 2026 Melbourne Cup net prizemoney, capped at $36,000

The top 10 finishers—including the grand prize winner—will also each receive a Funescapes holiday accommodation package, with an estimated average value of $1,000.

It’s a game of skill: your selections across the nine races on VRC Derby Day at Flemington determine your position on the leaderboard.

What can you win?

First prize: Champions Stakes Day premium marquee entry for two plus Vauban prizemoney

The grand prize winner receives two tickets to a Champions Stakes Day marquee, with premium food and beverages included in a dedicated hospitality space within the 350 Collective, valued at $2,860.

The first-place finisher also receives 1% of the net prizemoney Vauban earns in the 2026 Melbourne Cup, after trainer and jockey entitlements, up to a maximum payment of $36,000.

If Vauban does not run in the Melbourne Cup, the prize instead applies to 1% of his net prizemoney from any other races he contests during November 2026, subject to the cap and competition terms.

The prize is a payment linked to Vauban’s performance; it does not include ownership of the horse.

Holiday accommodation packages for the top 10

Each of the top 10 finishers also receives a Funescapes accommodation package, including the grand prize winner.

Packages provide one room for the winner and their partner, with many options also accommodating up to two children under 12. The estimated average package value is $1,000, although the value varies by destination and number of nights booked.

Booking and service fees apply. Airfares, transfers, meals, beverages, applicable resort fees and other expenses are the winner’s responsibility. Accommodation is subject to the supplier’s terms and conditions.

All tips must be submitted before Race 1 at Flemington. Tipping is expected to become available from 10am on Friday 30 October, with reminders sent to eligible entrants.

How does the tipping competition work?

Each selection is scored using a fictional $1 each-way bet, with fantasy dividends calculated using Victorian TAB tote odds. These are competition scoring amounts.

Fantasy dividends accumulate across the meeting, and the entrant with the highest total finishes first. Place dividends depend on the number of runners and the applicable rules. Administrators may nominate double-dividend races, which will be highlighted on the tipping form and leaderboard.

If entrants finish tied, the person who submitted their tips first receives the higher leaderboard position.

If your horse is scratched, you can change your selection before tipping closes. If you do not select a replacement, the system substitutes horse number 1, or the next available runner by number if that horse is also scratched.

We are running a Champions Stakes Day Marquee & Win a Melbourne Cup Runner Melbourne Cup Competition.

This competition will be limited to Active Recurring members of at least 1 Winning Edge Investments horse racing service. It's to reward our valued members and give you the opportunity to win a swathe of great prizes.

It is a game of skill competition, and so the winners of the 10 available prizes, including the Grand Prize, will be determined by the Top 10 finishers in a VRC Derby Day Tipping Competition run on Saturday October 31.

The Grand Prize will be

  • 2 tickets to a Champions Stakes Day Marquee with all premium food & beverages included in a dedicated hospitality space within the 350 Collective worth $2,860.
  • 1% of the net prize money Vauban earns in the Melbourne Cup 2026 (less trainer & jockey entitlements) or if he doesn't run in the Melbourne Cup, any other races Vauban contests in the November month. Up to a maximum of $36,000; equivalent to what a 1% owner in Vauban would receive in net prize money.

With regards to the 1% of the prizemoney Vauban earns in the $10 Million 2026 Melbourne Cup, the Melbourne Cup winner receives $4.5 Million, but note this year that all 24 runners in the Melbourne Cup get prizemoney, with even the horse who runs last receiving $100,000 prizemoney.

Vauban was favourite in the 2023 Melbourne Cup, and was 3rd favourite in the 2024 Melbourne Cup, but in both races he was ridden poorly and paraded terribly, not acclimatising to the hot weather. Last year he ran 6th and is entered again this year. His last two starts have been Group 1 placings, so he is in good form. Note that if for any reason Vauban doesn't run in the Melbourne Cup, you will receive 1% of prizemoney in any other races he contests in November 2026, which could include the Champions Stakes, Zipping Classic or Queen Elizabeth.

Additionally, the Top 10 finishers in the VRC Derby Day Tipping Competition, including the Grand Prize winner, will win a prize where we will pay for a Funescapes accommodation package for 1 room accommodation for a family holiday for yourself, your partner, and in many cases up to 2 kids (under 12).
